The "american establishment" is not synonymous with the Federal United States Government. The "american establishment" is a rather fantastic construction...more like the "Great American Dream". It is a collection of white americans (descendants of the early european settlers who wiped out most of the native indian population and practiced that one great act of human indignity - the slave trade) who believe that America has as its birthright - the right to be the sole superpower among the comity of nations.
